10 Years Ago - Ice Storm

There has been a lot of reminiscing this month about an unforgettable event that’s simply known as The Ice Storm. Ten years ago this month we were struck by a devastating storm, one that just snuck up on us. I remember sitting with my girlfriend in our dining room when the power first went out. We were on Parent street at the time and for fun we decided to see who could guess when the power would come back on. I think she said six hours while I was more optimistic with a two hour estimate. Little did we know that when the power would come back on, my fish would have all frozen to death as well as all of my plants and over two weeks would have passed by. I recall quite vividly walking down the pitch black hallway of my apartment building with only the beam of a flashlight leading the way down the frozen corridor. It was an eerie sight with the steam of my breath filling the beam of light as we made our way towards my front door. This was mid-afternoon but without power or neighbours all was still. I quickly popped in for a change of clothes and returned to my mother’s place in Brossard.
